Grand Cayman’s Public Transport
Grand Cayman has a well-oiled public transport system, perfect for travelers on a budget. From buses to taxis, you won’t be short of options.
Buses in Grand Cayman
Grand Cayman has nine bus routes that cover the island, allowing you to travel from west to north to east with ease. The main bus depot, where all routes start and end, is located on Edward Street in George Town. Each mini-bus is marked with a colorful circle and corresponding code which indicates which route it is a part of. Buses operate every day of the week from early morning until evening.
Taxis in Grand Cayman
If you’re looking for a point-to-point service, numerous taxi companies operate in Grand Cayman, and you can often find taxis waiting outside of resorts. It’s important to know that taxis on the island do not operate using a metered system. To ensure fares are consistent, the Cayman Islands government introduced the CI:GO taxi fare app, which allows you to input details such as your destination, number of passengers, and luggage. It then provides you with an estimated fare in US dollars and Cayman Islands dollars, which you can negotiate with your driver.

Renting a Car in Grand Cayman
If you’d prefer having control over your journey, you can rent a car for the duration of your Grand Cayman trip. As mentioned above, there are multiple rental options available upon your arrival at the airport, but there are also more businesses in George Town.
In order to rent a car on the island, you’ll need to be over the age of 21, have a valid Cayman or international driver’s license, and have a valid credit card.
If you’re going to rent a car, it’s also important to familiarize yourself with the local rules of the road, which will likely differ from what you’re used to. For instance, you must drive on the left-hand side, you can turn left at a red light after a full stop, and speed limits range from 25 to 50 miles per hour.
