Who can ride a jet ski in Grand Cayman?

Thanks to its design, anyone ages 5 and up can ride a jet ski, but only adults can steer the watercraft. Adults ages 18 and up can ride a jet ski and carry passengers, while teenagers between 16 and 17 are able to ride solo without passengers. Anyone between the ages of 5 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult on a jet ski. 

Remember to bring a photo ID to prove your age when renting a jet ski or going on a tour. 

Is it safe to ride a jet ski in Grand Cayman?

Given the speed capabilities of jet skis, which can reach over 50 miles per hour, it’s important to take some safety precautions, especially if you’re a novice. It’s crucial that you wear a life jacket while riding a jet skis and these will be available when you rent one in Grand Cayman. 

If you’re not familiar with using a jet ski, you can ride at a slow and leisurely pace. Going at higher speeds increases the risk of flipping the watercraft. If this should happen, the key to the jet ski is attached to a lanyard on your wrist, which will switch off the engine if you fall. 

While riding, be mindful of other watercraft around you and avoid traveling in the wake of another vehicle. It’s also advisable to wear sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the sun and sea spray.

With calm waters surrounding Grand Cayman, you can ride a jet ski just about anywhere along the coastline. The watersport is one of the top things to do in Seven Mile Beach, where you can savor the seemingly endless stretch of Caribbean waters aboard your craft. 

Popular jet ski destinations include Starfish Point, known for its abundance of starfish, and Stingray City, one of Grand Cayman’s most famous attractions. Here, you are able to swim among loads of stingrays and even touch the gentle creatures! You can join a Stingray City jet ski tour with companies such as Fat Fish Adventures.

Rum Point provides excellent conditions for riding a jet ski and you can easily explore the North Sound from here, passing by white sand beaches and mangroves.

Where can I rent a jet ski in Grand Cayman?

Given the popularity of watersports in Grand Cayman, you can find stores to rent a jet ski across the island. As part of the Red Sail Sports family, Rum Point Club offers WaveRunner rentals in Grand Cayman for 30 minutes at a time. You can choose between a single or double jet ski depending on if you want a solo ride or to carry passengers.

Red Sail Sports has locations across the island from where you can rent a jet ski, including at the Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa. If you prefer to go riding with a group, you could join a Grand Cayman Snorkeling and Jet Ski Tour to different snorkeling spots on Seven Mile Beach. 

You can also take a Waverunner Tour in Grand Cayman on the East End of the island. Join Tortuga Divers, our sister company, on this 1.5-hour tour that visits two snorkel locations.
