While the majority of visitors travel to Grand Cayman during the peak dry season, when the sun is out and the water conditions are prime, the rainy season presents a unique experience. With fewer crowds around, you can still enjoy the beach and ocean while broadening your horizons to enjoy Grand Cayman’s culture!
Here at Rum Point Club, we’re open every season, offering both indoor dining at our Solis Restaurant and outdoor dining at the Rum Deck. We’ve created this guide to what to expect during the rainy season in Grand Cayman and some of the best indoor activities for a rainy day. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

What to Expect During the Rainy Season in Grand Cayman
The rainy season in Grand Cayman lasts between May and November, with September and October receiving the largest amount of rain. However, the rainy season is typically characterized by short, heavy showers rather than persistent rainfall. You’ll also experience higher temperatures during the rainy season, making the rain a welcome respite!
Outdoor activities are still popular during this time, with plenty of opportunity to hit the beach and go for a swim between showers. Water temperatures are more than welcoming, and diving and snorkeling are by no means off limits, since you will still encounter marine life such as hammerhead sharks and groupers!

Indoor Activities in Grand Cayman on a Rainy Day
When it’s a rainy day in Grand Cayman and you don’t want to be stuck in your hotel, there are numerous indoor activities to enjoy. The weather offers a perfect opportunity to get to know the island culture and cuisine, or even pamper yourself at the spa. Here are our top suggestions for what to do in Grand Cayman when it rains:
Admire Local Art at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands
With a collection spanning modernism, realism, contemporary art, and traditional crafts, the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands showcases the skills and artistry of locals and residents. Hosting continual exhibitions and a permanent collection of over 300 works, the gallery offers an unmatched representation of Cayman art. You’ll see the works of well-known names like folk painter Gladwyn Bush and upcoming artist John Reno Jackson. A particular highlight is the intricate thatch works, a long-standing tradition on the islands.
Explore the Cayman Crystal Caves
If you still want to explore Grand Cayman’s natural wonders without getting wet, you won’t want to miss the Cayman Crystal Caves. Descend underground beneath a tropical rainforest and be astounded by the sheer scale and intricacy of these caverns.
Only accessible on a guided tour, this activity begins with a 45-minute outdoor walk before you explore three different caves — a root cave, an open-ceiling cave, and a lake cave. Learn about their incredible formation, and don’t forget to bring a camera! There’s a good reason why it’s one of our picks for 5 Things First-Timers Should Do in Grand Cayman — read our blog for more!

Treat Yourself at La Mer Spa
Looking for something a bit more relaxing? Then book yourself in for a treatment at our partner company, La Mer Spa. Located at the Morritt’s Resort, you can choose from a range of services, including massages, facials, and manicures and pedicures. If you’re just arriving on the island, their jet lag treatment works wonders!

Taste the Cayman Islands Rum and Spirits
When the weather is bad, it’s a perfect excuse to warm up with a stiff drink! The Cayman Islands have a long history of rum production, as with the rest of the Caribbean, a tradition that continues to this day.
At Cayman Spirits Co., you can sip on incomparable spirits made using local ingredients and techniques specific to the West Indies. Their Seven Fathoms Rum is unmissable, having been matured in the depths of the Caribbean Ocean! Join a tour of the facilities to learn more about their processes before enjoying a tasting of their rums and vodka.
Unearth History at Cayman Islands National Museum
Home to over 10,000 artifacts and a range of exhibits, the Cayman Islands National Museum takes you back in time to uncover the archipelago’s history. Located in George Town, the museum covers all aspects of the Cayman Islands’ history, from its geographical evolution to its cultural heritage. There is even an Old Gaol on site, believed to have been a store for military supplies.
